Instinct is the spontaneous reaction in the behavior of an animal or human, it is not learned, it is innate. It is faster than logical reasoning and is very intense. Instinct controls hunger, sexual desire, and the fight-or-flight response. The combination of our dominant instinct with our tendency towards one of the personality types is what will give our enneagram subtype.
